SMC Breaks into Top 10 in the World Championship!

Smoky Mountain Cheese first attempt in the World Championship Cheese Contest resulted in a 6th and 15th place showing! Our English Mountain Cheesery “Exquisite Gourmet Beer Cheese Spread” scored a total of 97.45 points out of 100, while our signature No Bull Beer Cheese Spread with attitude scored 96.50. We are extremely happy with the results and plan to win the contest next year.

The World Championship Cheese Contest is hosted by the non-profit Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association with assistance from hundreds of industry volunteers. Since its inception in 1957, the World Championship Cheese Contest has grown rapidly and is now the largest technical evaluation of cheese and butter in the world.

Smoky Mountain Cheese has entered both our original Beer Cheese Spread With Attitude, and our English Mountain Cheesery Exquisite Gourmet Beer Cheese Spread into category #63 (flavored cheese spread). Kroger to place Smoky Mountain Cheese in over 900 stores!

The Kroger Company, Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kroger (NYSE:KR) is one of the nation’s largest grocery retailers, with fiscal 2010 sales of $82.2 billion. Kroger has ordered Beer Cheese Spread With Attitude to be put into over 900 stores in Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia, as part of their nationwide expansion with Smoky Mountain Cheese.

The Kroger Co. spans many states with store formats that include grocery and multi-department stores, convenience stores and mall jewelry stores. They operate under nearly two dozen banners, all of which share the same belief in building strong local ties and brand loyalty with their customers.

Our booth at this well attended show allowed customer prospects to sample our multiple cheese flavors. Major retail stores such as Safeway, Kroger, Publix, CVS, Super Valu, Trader Joe’s attended the show, which covered tens of thousands of square feet and over a 1,000 booths. There were also National product booths from Italy, Mexico, France, and all tasters loved our Beer Cheese Spread With Attitude!

SMC Enters the Private Label Arena with Multiple Flavors of Beer Cheese Spreads

Smoky Mountain Cheese, LLC will offer new beer cheese flavors at the Private Label Manufacturer’s Association show in Chicago, November 13-15, 2011. As a USDA and FDA approved facility, Smoky Mountain Cheese can manufacture nearly 100,000 units per day in its own Unique Seymour, TN facility. We can accommodate many labeling requirements, along with an internal package design capability. Smoky Mountain Cheese can also work with customers on unique flavoring requests and other product categories.

When Randall Mitchell set out a plastic tub of homemade beer cheese and crackers during a camping trip a couple of years ago, Steve Koplow respectfully declined.

The Sevierville dentist and fellow camper is a picky eater, but when he saw his kids devouring the snack, Koplow decided to give it a try. The result was an instant partnership to launch the product to market and expand rapidly.

“I have walked in multibillion-dollar grocery chains and have walked out with contracts,” Mitchell said.”

Smoky Mountain Beer Cheese is in more than 2,700 grocery stores east of the Mississippi River. When it becomes available in all Kroger locations early next year, it will be on the shelves of more than 5,000 stores.

SMC is a big HIT at the Cleveland Air Show

With more noise than the 4th of July, the Cleveland Air Show at Burke Lakefront Airport is undeniably the loudest Labor Day tradition of the Cleveland area. Smoky Mountain Cheese created their own BANG by giving out free samples.
